Global cooperation can save earth mother

Nowadays, many people believes that we have to do something to save our planet so that we can help our descendant conserve the world's energy resources. It makes me wonder: how can we save our earth mother? No nation in the world would like to sacrifice their own interests to conserve energy. Therefore, I think a worldwide cooperation will be more effective to save our earth mother.

We all live on the same planet and we all rely on the same limited amount of energy resources.  The world has become so globalized that that only a handful of nations are able to self-sufficient in energy supply.  Most nations' economic developments rely on the imports of oils from oil-rich countries. For example, majority of energy consumed in Japan is imported from other countries, and as a result, any discussion and resolution on the energy issue would require international collaboration among countries including major energy exporters and importers, as the national interests of these countries are highly interwoven these days. Therefore, single nation will be unlikely to succeed in conserving energy if other countries choose not to do so.  One country alone could do little. 

Moreover, some nations may tend to make short term decisions to maximize their own economic interests and expand their social development. It is necessary to have international cooperation and communicate about setting long term objectives of energy saving for all nations to achieve. Since not all nations are at the same level financially and technically, some nations may need to sacrifice their short term economic benefits to minimize energy waste. 

Furthermore, developing countries may could have the chance to import advanced energy saving technology from the developed countries due to the global cooperation. Under-developed countries and developing countries may think that they have other priorities, such as bringing people out of poverty and developing national economy even if their developing process may over consume a lot of energy. I think this is actually the reason why international cooperation is needed. Through cooperation, technologies can be transferred. Developed countries will also benefit financially from cooperation through licensing the energy conserving technologies. 

In conclusion, it will be a win-win situation for all nations to come together and work together to agree a solution to conserve the energy resources on this planet. However, if all nations can make proper planning and continue to encourage innovations in the technologies and international policies,  I think sacrifices may can be avoided in the energy saving process.
