Some thoughts about rap

Rap is one of the four artistic expressions of Hip-pop. It is often associated with characteristic flow and beat. There is no identical flows among rap singers. Every rap singer has his or her own flow due to their different rapping pattern. 

There are many controversies about rap. Many people may would argue that rap isn't music because there is no rhythm in it. Well, in my opinion, I don't think music strictly requires rhythm. Music can be expressed by any form. The sound of river flowing and the sound of birds singing can also be a form of music. Moreover, there is some certain rhythm with the combination of flow and beat.

Secondly, some people may argue that the lyrics of rap songs are too violent. Admittedly, there are certain rap song have violent lyrics. Normally, some violent lyrics are just a way to present artistic expressions. It doesn't mean the singer actually have done the violent things that he described in his songs. Eminem once said that his lyrics are half truth and half imagination. Anyone who has a clear mind and right view of life shouldn't want to violent things due to the lyrics of rap songs.

Thirdly, some people would argue that many lyrics in the rap songs are about gender and racial discrimination. In fact, there are certain songs that used discriminated words and expressions. However, there are also many rap song that can be inspiring. Such as "I can", "My way", "One mic", "No introduction" performed by Nas; "Lose yourself", "Till I collapse", "Sing for the moment" performed by Eminem; "Until i get there", "The show goes on" performed by Lupe Fiasco and so on.

So far, the history of rap music has over one hundred years. With the development of rap music, it becomes more and more popular in the mainstream society. It proves that rap music is also one of the mainstream music with numerous outstanding rap songs.
