As the saying goes, a good start is half the success. What if you started badly? Many graduates encountered setbacks when they first entering the workplace. Some people begin to switch their jobs frequently. Some people even give up the pursuit of their careers. Now, I want to talk about the frustrations I encountered in my workplace and how did I handle these frustrations. I hope my experience of fighting frustrations can help people that are in the same situation.
Firstly, I was struggling with reality shocks. When I graduated from university, I was full of the desire to be successful. After I got a decent job from a big corporation, I was sure that I could do something about my career. However, things are not what I suppose to be. I became very disappointed about my job quickly. I didn't like the nature of my job. I wasn't used to the intense work pace, either. After analyzing myself, I found the disappointment about my job is because of my high expectations. I learned to lower my expectation and adapt myself to the work environment. Gradually, I became to love my job.
Secondly, I was confused about how to complete practical work tasks. Textbook knowledge that I learned from school did not function a very important role at work. Managers don't have the responsibility to teach you how to complete your own work tasks. I made so many mistakes at the very beginning of my work period. I didn't give up. I learned to consult senior employees patiently and respectfully whenever I took a unfamiliar work task. They gave me many valuable advices and helped me complete my work tasks of high quality.
Thirdly, I was frustrating about doing assigned works that I was unwilling to do. I learned to be compromised. Every manager arranges work tasks or positions based on employees' specialties. I believed that there's a reason that I was assigned to those specific work tasks. I regained the initiative and did well on those "unwilling" work tasks.
There are many more frustrations that I have encountered at work. Fortunately, I overcame these frustrations and did a great job of my work. As a workplace newbie, I think it is very important to keep up a positive attitude. Furthermore, we should never be afraid of making mistakes. Last but not the least, never losing confidence and passion whenever we encountered frustrations.
