Is it cartoon's fault to make children hurt people?

A few days ago, some news report caught up my attention. Two little boys in China were seriously burned because another 8-year boy tried to imitate a particular plot from an animation. Some public opinions thought the misleading plot in the cartoon left a bad influence on children. Serval sociologists even suggested that this particular animation should be banned by the authority. Currently, the producer of this animation is being sued by the two injured boys. 

I knew about this animation. It is very well-known in China and has been popular for years. It is a quite simple story that describes the lives of a bunch of sheep and wolves. I find it is very ridiculous that people blame this tragedy on the cartoon. Cartoon is full of imagination. It is supposed to be funny and sometimes unrealistic. I think it's hard to find necessary connection between cartoon and committing a crime, especially after millions of children growing up with this animation. Why didn't other kids make an attempt to hurt people?

In my opinion, I think the main reason that caused this tragedy is insufficient parenting. Children don't have the ability to tell what is real and what is exaggerated. For example, in the animation "Tom and Jerry", there is a lot of scenes that Jerry is bullying Tom or Tom is hitting himself with a pan or something else. Parents are responsible for help their kids realizing what kind of behavior is acceptable and what kind of behavior is inappropriate. I remember when I was a kid, I enjoyed watching various cartoons. My mom always told me not to imitate some certain plots because they were unrealistic and I might hurt myself or other people. 

In addition, I think watching animation together is a good opportunity to communicate with children. Parents can know about how their kids understand the characters and plots in the animation. Then, they can guide and correct their children's negative and dangerous ideas through communication. Furthermore, parents should help children realize the positive messages that every animation presents, like love, hope and caring. I believe this could help parents teach their child to build a right view of life, world and values. 

I feel terribly sorry about what happened to the two injured boys. Instead of blaming the tragedy on the animation, public opinions should be more about how to improve parenting to avoid this kind of tragedy. Moreover, parents of the boy who caused this tragedy should take a really good look at their educational method and guide their son come through this tragedy.
