Nowadays, many employers judge candidates who are looking for a job based on their resumes. However, is it reliable to judge a person based on his or her resume?
First of all, admittedly, objective information on a person's resume is very helpful in the company's initial filtration of candidates. Education background, personal experience and previous working experience on a person's resume can serve as the solid evidence for employers and help employers gain a primary understanding of candidates' ability.
Secondly, only objective information from resume can not be enough to demonstrate the capability and characters of the candidates thoroughly. Employers can't know about the candidate's attitude toward life and work, if they are optimistic or passive, passionate or lazy. For example, job position in an advertising company requires creativity. It is very obvious that employers can't see candidates' creativity just on their resume.
However, interview can give more information about the candidates that the resumes are lack of. Face to face interview can let employers easily tell a person's personality and characters. Therefore, employers can pick out the candidate who have the suitable characters for the company. In addition, employers can give specific tasks to the candidates during the interview. To do so, employers can have an intuitive feeling for the candidates and estimate if these candidates have enough skill to handle the specific job.
In conclusion, I don't think that it is reliable to judge people only rely on his or her resume, especially when it comes to hiring someone. In addition, employment is a two way choice. Interviews not only give employers more information about the candidates, but also give candidates the opportunity to get information about the employer and job requirements.
